Upstate Businesses Team Up to Create All-natural Ice Cream Product with 100 Percent Colombian Coffee Flavoring

SYRACUSE, NY – Two Upstate New York-based companies today introduced a premium ice cream product co-created exclusively for coffee connoisseurs. Byrne Dairy and Paul deLima Company joined forces recently to create Paul deLima Cafe Ole – a combination of rich, dark, fresh-roasted coffee, deep chocolate and all-natural ice cream. The result of a collaboration between the two family-owned businesses, Byrne Dairy's Paul deLima Cafe Ole incorporates 100 percent Colombian Arabica Coffee, the freshest creams from New York State producers and premium chocolate bits from Gertrude Hawk Chocolates.

"Anyone can make coffee ice cream," said Bill Byrne, president of Byrne Dairy. "But premium coffee ice cream should have premium coffee flavor. Paul deLima offers the finest local coffee products available. Its Colombian coffee compliments our fresh, all-natural ice cream perfectly. When people think good coffee, they think Paul deLima."Both Byrne Dairy and Paul deLima put several flavor combinations to a rigorous course of taste testing before settling on the perfect blend of fresh cream and coffee. Using a variation of the "cupping" tests it conducts daily on coffee blends roasted in its Cicero, New York plant, Paul deLima tasters settled on the Colombian Arabica blend for its deep, rich body and light sweetness – the perfect features to compliment fresh cream.

"This ice cream is for people who like the taste of real coffee," said Peter Miller, president of the Paul deLima Company. "Byrne Dairy uses only the finest, freshest ingredients in its ice cream, and we're pleased they recognize Paul deLima as a company that maintains similar high quality standards. The combination of our mainstay products is a perfect match for even the most discriminating tastes."

Launched in conjunction with the National Dairy Association's National Ice Cream Month, Byrne Dairy's Paul deLima ice cream is available at all Byrne Dairy stores and dip stands as well as Wal-Mart, select Shur-Fine, Big M, and other major independent grocers across Upstate New York.

NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH®
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. He recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by a full 90% of the nation’s population. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."

The International Ice Cream Association (IICA) encourages retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month, and Sunday, July 21, 2002, National Ice Cream Day.
